01.

15th century - a 1000 years old legacy

The first written record of this estate dates back to 1480 or service.

02.

Archaeological treasure from the 16th century

Inscription on a stone plaque in the garden from 1555 testifies to its profound historical significance. This grand complex once belonged to the renowned Kotruljević family, famous for their innovations in trade and finance. Through the marriage of Lukrecija Kotruljević and Pavo Zuzorić, it became part of the legacy of the distinguished Zuzorić family, known as patrons of the arts and literature within the Dubrovnik Republic.

03.

1480. - 1818. Zuzorić family property

The Zuzorić family left a lasting imprint on cultural history, with their most famous member, Cvijeta Zuzorić, serving as a muse and inspiration to many Renaissance poets of Dubrovnik.

I. layer of building architecture

The archive documents reveal important details regarding the obligations of mason Jak and owner Pavko. Notably, stipulate a deadline of four months for the construction to be completed using quality materials. Interestingly, the specifications indicate that the building's dimensions are flexible, stating it must be "as big and as long as the owner desires" (largam ut longam quantum ipse Paucho voluerit).

05.

II. layer of building architecture

  1. It is not known whether the older original building of the summer house was destroyed/damaged in the Great Earthquake of 1667 or whether the Baroque renovation followed due to the new needs of the family or the views on the comfort of the new times. No archival documents have been found to shed light on the origin of the existing summer house building, but it is clear from the stylistic characteristics that it is a building from the Baroque period.

05.

1818. The Aristocrate's wedding - the union of two noble families

There is no doubt that after the wedding of Nikoleta Zuzorić and Ivo Bizzarro (1818), some foundations for the project within the complex followed, since Bizzarro was friends with many artists and writers and was a man of refined taste to whom friends and fellow citizens turned for advice and purchases of art and furniture. With their design, primarily elegant lines and color, they clearly indicate the era of classicism.

06.

III. layer of building architecture

After the end of World War II, in changed socio-political and economic circumstances, the entire estate was taken from the Bizzarro-Ohmučević family based on the assessment procedure and decision of the City Commission for Agrarian Reform in Colonization of August 15, 1947, with the prior consent of the Regional Commission for Agrarian Reform and Colonization from Split.

07.

1945. ownership by a state

The estate of Stefa Bizzarro-Ohmučević, widow of Karlo Bizzarro-Ohmučević, retained a third of its property until she sold her share to the Fruit Growing Station on October 22, 1956. However since 1945, the estate had been under state management, with earlier oversight by institutions like the Department of Agriculture of the Dubrovnik County People's Committee. By September 1948, the Zuzorić-Bizzarro estate had already begun hosting olive growing courses, and in early 1949, Agricultural Engineering students from Kaštel-Lukšić utilized the estate practical training in olive cultivation and southern crops. The article highlights the significant potential of this large state-owned olive grove in Brsečine, which had remainedultivated for nearly half a century, as an invaluable resource for training future olive experts.
